Good afternoon.  I hope that you are all staying warm this very cold day but are still glowing from last night’s exciting Patriots win!  Short week coming up so will make this update a 2-for-1 and cover for next week, as well.

The weather does not look good (rain) for our Winter Carnival on Thursday.  I will make the call as to whether (no pun intended) to postpone the event to next week before school lets out tomorrow.  Stay tuned. At the end of this email are important details regarding the event.

For 8th Grade Parents/Students: Students and their parents are no longer required to input the GHS Freshman course selections themselves. The "green sheets" for selecting classes for next year will be coming home with students on Wednesday. Please have them returned by Friday, February 1. I have attached to this email, information and registration for the 2019 Gilford Cal Ripken Baseball season.

To order this year’s GMS Yearbook, please follow this link to the Josten’s website.

Kudos to our 7th grade students who were recently acknowledged for taking part in “Operation Gratitude” where we (and many, many other schools across the nation) donated candy as part of the care packages sent to the thousands of brave men and women serving for our country from around the world.  Since 2003, this organization has sent more than 2 million packages and we are proud to be a part of that!

Important Winter Carnival Information:

  • January 24 with a Rain Date of January 31

  • Equipment cannot travel with students on the bus; it must be dropped off by parents at GMS.  Drop off time is either Wednesday from 3:00-5:00 in the cafeteria or on Thursday from 6:45-8:00 in trucks parked in visitor parking.

  • Please connect and label all equipment with your child’s name and grade level.

  • All students must travel to Gunstock/Fay Ice Arena by bus with the school.

  • Student sign out from Gunstock will take place from 11:00-1:00 on the first floor of the main lodge.  We will be loading buses shortly after that time. Parents must sign out students in person at Gunstock in order for students to remain at the mountain.  Students must be present for sign out; otherwise they will return to school by bus. If you wish to have a designee sign out your child, that information must be provided, in writing, to the GMS front office by the end of the day on Wednesday.

  • We recommend student bring their own food and drink for the day; ski resort prices are high.

  • Equipment should be picked up after school on Thursday.  Any equipment not picked up will be housed in the main office and will be accessible until 3:15 any day.

  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Take care and as I do each year, I will end this email with a quote from Dr. King:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
