Notification from: Gilford Middle School

Good afternoon.  I want to start off by congratulating our cast and crew of “Legally Blonde, Jr.”  for putting on such a great performance last weekend.  I am always so impressed at the talent we have on and behind the stage.  Kudos, once again, to Mr. Demko and Mr. Witham for their dedication and skill in working with our students.

From Nurse Haddock:  If your child carries an inhaler with them during the school day or for sporting events, please make sure their name is on it.  Also, if your child receives immunizations during a doctor’s visit, please forward an updated copy to the health office so their file can be updated.

Not earth-shattering, but attendance to school is important.  I know that “life” happens (athletics, family vacations, sickness, etc) but when your child is out of school they are missing key instruction and even more importantly, classroom discussions with their teachers and peers.  With that said, if you have any planned/scheduled absences for your child, and/or want to request work be collected ahead of time, the families need to put this in writing for the office (not their teachers) either via a written note or email.

The 6th Grade Math-a-lon Team won their January meet.  They competed against ten other schools and covered topics in whole numbers, decimals, fractions, word problems and geometry.  Every one of our students earned double-digit points in at least one of the categories.

Congrats to our two Spelling Bee finalists, Matthew Farah and Sam Leggett.  Matthew is the school champion while Sam finished second overall and will be the alternate for the state competition.

The PTA and Gilford Together are once again holding an informational night for parents (no children should attend this event).  “High and Seek” will be presented on Thursday, February 23, at 6:00 at the elementary school.  It is free with pizza provided at 6:00 with the presentation to follow at 6:30.  This is an interactive presentation for adults only, using a “staged teenage bedroom” with indicators and warning signs of teenage risky behaviors, such as drug use and underage drinking.  Participants tour the bedroom, receive training on current drug and alcohol trends, what to look for, and techniques for communicating with teens.

The PTA is also hosting a Family Fun Night on Saturday, February 18 from 4:00-7:00 at the elementary school. This is open to GES & GMS families for an afternoon/evening of sledding, dancing, obstacle course, crafts, and pizza.

Both budget deliberative sessions are next week; Tuesday is for the town and Thursday is for the school.  Please go to our website to view the Gilford School District Budget Presentation and please attend both sessions to have your voices heard.

Gilford and Belmont are co-hosting a boys/girls B basketball tournaments.  The girls will take place at Belmont Middle School while GMS hosts the boys tourney.  This takes place next Thursday and Friday.
