Good afternoon.  Not sure what to do this weekend with no football; good news, is that your kids don’t have to be worried about being bored with the 5th/6th grade social today after school and the 7th/8th grade dance tonight at 7:00.  Both are Valentine Day themed.

On March 9, help support Unified Club (both here and at the high school) as they support Special Olympics of NH during the annual “Cool School Dip” at the Margate Resort in Laconia.  Donate your time, or your money, or take a jump in the lake! Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Other attachments to this email include the most recent newsletter from our Parks and Rec program and the agenda for Tuesday morning’s Policy Committee Meeting at the high school.

We are hosting a Unified Basketball Tournament this Tuesday (3:00). Area schools will be joining us for a friendly competition and good food!  If you want to know how you can help, please contact either our own Chris Parker of the high school’s Laurie Belanger.

An update on our voracious readers here at GMS:  As of today they have read 2,801 books! Our goal of 5,000 by the end of the year is well within reach!!  How do we keep track of the books, you may ask? In order for a student to successfully log in a book that has been read they must take an AR test (short for “Accelerated Reader).  This tests their comprehension on the book that they have just read. It does not count as a book read if they do not pass the test (they may take the test more than once). The following students have read at least a million words (with the number of books and approximate words, in millions, in parentheses):  John Blandford (49/3.6), Ryan Guyer (52/2.5), Liz Albert (52/2.3), Joseph Schelb (12/1.5), Benson Chen (40/1.4), Lily Maynard (13/1.4), Sydney Eastman (13/1.3), Jaleen Reese (10/1.2), Ben Wolpin (28/1.2), Kyle Gandini (22/1.2), Elijah Presby (10/1.1), Anna Coapland (22/1.1), Megan Legro (24/1.1), Rylee Stefan (10/1.0), Emma McBride (14/1.0), and Ben Williams (14/1.0).

Upcoming Events:

Tomorrow - Nordic Ski Meet at NHNCA (10:30); Math Counts Competition at Plymouth; A Boys/Girls Hoops Tourney at Winnisquam

Monday - Unified Hoops at Alton (3:30)

Tuesday - GSD Policy Committee mtg (7:30); Nordic Ski Meet at Moultonborough (3:00); Unified Hoops Tourney (3:00)
