Notification from: Gilford Middle School

Good afternoon.  The weather has finally broken and our students (and staff) can now stop melting.  I have to give both a lot of credit as it is not easy to teach and learn in such hot/humid weather.  They’re troopers, for sure!

Next Thursday is our Open House which runs from 4:30-6:00.  You may come and go as you’d like. This is a chance for you to meet your child’s new teacher and check out the school.  In November, we will hold our parent conferences where you will have a chance to sit down and talk about your child’s progress so far this year.

I have begun my “principal interviews” with students this past week.  By the end of October, I hope to have sat down with each and every student to talk about what good things “fill their buckets,” school, and just to have the chance to get to know them a little better and for them to get to know me a little better.  I have met with nearly 40 8th graders so far and I have enjoyed our little chats very much. I have learned some pretty cool things about what they do. I have learned that we have a professional air-soft competitor; the owner of a pig named “Gronk;” that we have an official squirrel hunting season here in New Hampshire; one of our students is going to earn his Black Belt in Karate later this month; the proud owner of a Norwegian Fjord Horse is going to compete for the first time the weekend; someone is a practicing blacksmith and a member of the Civil Air Patrol; one of our students traveled to Africa to take part in a safari; one of our students used to have a pet shark; we have a relative of Red Sox legend, Carlton Fisk; and, finally, I was surprised to learn that there are many families here in Gilford who have chickens (me, being one of them!).  I cannot wait to discover new things about our students as I sit down with them.

In the next day or two, your child will be bringing home a Health Information Form.  It will be on blue paper. At your earliest convenience, please review, complete and sign in the three areas where it asks for parent/guardian signature and return it to the school.  Thank you in advance for your help with this.
