Notification from: Gilford Middle School

Good afternoon.  I am a fiercely proud principal today.  Yesterday, we had our annual community event to help out the folks in Laconia by carving pumpkins for their PumpkinFest.  Our students and staff carved more than 300 pumpkins for the event. I had to be out yesterday so I did not witness what people were raving about today.  The students did an amazing job with their behavior, enthusiasm, and collaboration. The custodial staff was thrilled as to how well they cleaned up; it’s not an easy task to keep the building clean while carving 300+ pumpkins.  Kudos to my staff for their leadership. Kudos to Gigi Johnson and her merry band of volunteers for their major impact. And kudos to the MB Tractor and Marc Bourgeois for not only purchasing the pumpkins but also delivering them to the school and then coming back today to deliver them to downtown Laconia.  A couple of their employees also came down to help to unload the pumpkins alongside Mrs. Moynihan and her members of Student Council (who were awesome today, by the way). A great collaborative effort between school, parents and a local business.

The after school Chess Club begins on Monday and runs each Monday in our cafeteria from 2:20-3:30.  Once again, this is a collaborative effort with high school.

If your child will be participating in a winter sport and has NOT taken the computer-based impact/concussion impact test, please have them see our school nurse, Mrs. Haddock, to arrange a time during a study hall or early release day to complete the test.  In addition to the impact testing, a current physical must be on file in the health office for sports participation. For current 5th graders, the exam date must be no older than November, 2017. Please contact Mrs. Haddock, if you have any questions.

Also, registration on FamilyID will be open beginning Monday, October 15.  Winter sport start dates are as follows: Nordic Skiing (12/3); Alpine Skiing & Basketball (11/19); Unified Basketball (TBD).

Next week’s events:

Monday = School Picture Retakes (for retakes, simply have students come to school with their current pictures)

Tuesday = A/B Boys Soccer @ InterLakes (3:45/5:00); Cross Country Meet @ Plymouth (4:00)

Wednesday = Early Release (12:20); A Field Hockey @ Franklin (3:30); A Volleyball @ Franklin (3:30); B Boys Soccer @ Franklin (3:30)

Thursday = A/B Girls Soccer (3:30/4:45); A Volleyball (3:30)

Friday = A/B Boys Soccer @ Belmont (3:30)

Thank you and I hope you get a chance to check out PumpkinFest this weekend.  And, of course, Go Sox!

Peter
