School is over, but that doesn't mean kids need to stop learning or reading! Summer is a great time for kids to read what they enjoy and to learn in new kinds of environments. Summer learning loss (summer slide) is a real problem. In fact, research suggests students lose more than two months of math knowledge during the summer, and reading skill loss is similar.
We've compiled a few resources to keep students learning through the summer, with a particular focus on math, reading and STEM activities.
For a little motivation, we have set up two “Summer Slide BBQs"! Any learners reading 100 minutes a week and engaging in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for 60 minutes a week for four consecutive weeks will be treated to a Summer Slide BBQ. The principals will serve up some hot dogs and kids will have fun on the slip and slide!
Just bring your reading/math logs the day of the BBQ.
BBQ Dates: July 16th at GES from 1:00-2:00 and August 13th at GMS from 1:00-2:00
Please RSVP at 524-1661 by July 11 and August 8 to let us know you will be joining us for the upcoming BBQ!
