10/25/2019

Good afternoon, students, parents and faculty/staff.

Safety Note:

In continuing with our concern with student safety, please remind your students who walk or ride their bike to school in the morning (as I did earlier this week) that they must obey the rules of the road; walk/ride on the correct side of the road, use the crosswalks, don’t weave all over the place, etc. This time of year is especially concerning as it is still pretty dark in the morning.

Upcoming Conferences:

Reminder that our Student-Led Parent Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 7 from 3:00-6:00 and Friday, November 8 from 8:00-3:00. On Monday, I will let you know how and where to reserve your spots.

Student Council News:

Next Thursday, our Student Council is holding a Halloween Fundraiser. Students may pay $1.00 to wear their, school appropriate, costumes. All proceeds will go to “The Cure Starts Now,” an organization dedicated to the elimination of all cancers.

"Choose Love" Speaker:

Scarlett Lewis, the founder of the “Choose Love” movement in memory of her son, Jesse, who was tragically murdered at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings will be here on November 5 in the GHS Auditorium beginning at 6:00pm. Please read the attachment for more information. This should prove to be a very special event.

Other News:

As we move through the school year, please be sure to send in your child’s updated physical and immunization records after a well-child visit with their doctor. For an 8th grader, a physical will be important to have in a student’s file for sports the beginning of 9th grade. Also, for 6th graders, they will need the Tdap vaccine before entry into 7th grade. This immunization will be given at a child’s 10/11 year old well-child visit.

Hard to believe but we already have two students who have eclipsed the million words read mark. Both Ben Wolpin and Benson Chen are well over a million words. As a school, we’d like to read more than 5500 books this year. We can do it!

Our annual 7th/8th Grade Halloween Dance is tomorrow night from 7:00-8:30; please be prompt in picking up your child. Cost is $5.00 and there will be food and drink on sale. Again, school appropriate costumes are encouraged!

Halloween Safety Tips:

And seeing that it is Halloween next week here are a few tips from the NH State Fire Marshall’s Office regarding Halloween safety:

Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers.

Masks can obstruct a child’s vision; try using non-toxic paint and/or make up instead.

Masks and paint/make-up covering more than 25% of the face are not allowed during next week’s Halloween Fundraiser.

Children under 12 should not be alone without adult supervision.

Have kids use glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.

Sports:

Finally, congrats to the Boys A Soccer Team for winning our annual middle school soccer tourney on Saturday. This is an annual event that we host and we are very happy to take home the first place trophy. Also, our girls cross country team came in 6th place at last week’s state meet. Both of these accomplishments are pretty impressive!

Take care and have an enjoyable evening.
