Good afternoon, parents, students and staff.

Student Council News

I hope you survived Halloween with no serious sugar comas. We raised more than $150 yesterday for “The Cure Starts Now.” Our Student Council put on the fundraiser where, as you know, students paid a dollar to wear their costumes and help eradicate all cancers.

I received a nice letter from Herb Greene, Gilford Parks & Rec Director, expressing his appreciation for our middle school students who help out and participated in their Halloween Happening” last Friday. This was held prior to our middle school dance that was also a big success!

If you have not done so yet, click here to reserve your spot for next week’s student-led conferences.

Essay Contest

The Elks organization is putting on an essay contest for students in grades 5-8. A couple of our social studies teachers are making this part of their class but any and all students can take part (and possibly win some prizes!). The topic for this year’s essay is, “What Does Freedom of Speech Mean to Me?” I have attached the particulars to this email. Essays should be submitted to me by Monday, November 25.

Scarlett Lewis, founder, "Choose Love"

Also, attached to this email are the School Board Agenda(s) for Monday night and the flyer for “Choose Love” school district community event which features Scarlett Lewis giving a powerful presentation on the program she created in memory of her son, Jesse. This will take place Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 6:00-7:30 in the Gilford High School auditorium.

Tomorrow, the Gunstock Nordic Association is holding an Open House from 9:00-3:00 at the GNA Gary Allen Clubhouse (across from the Gunstock Nordic Center). Any student (or even parent) interested in Nordic Skiing or Jumping this winter are welcome to attend. You will learn everything you need to know about the middle school Nordic ski teams, equipment needed (and where to get it), ski pass requirements/cost, Nordic ski techniques, practice/race schedule, details/cost of the GNA year-round training programs and meet the GMHS Ski Coach, Nina Gavrylyuk (3-time Olympic Gold Medalist).

Robotics Fundraiser

Tomorrow from 5:30-8:00 at the Gilford Community Church will be a “spaghetti dinner fundraiser” for the school district’s Robotics program. Tickets are $10 per person, $25 for a family and $6 for senior citizens. There will also be an exciting raffle and silent auction.

Youth Basketball

The Lakes Region Elite Basketball program is putting on a “Tune Up” for boys and girls in grades 5-8. Sessions consist of fundamental drills, conditioning, and scrimmages. Instructors will be skilled coaches who will help your child get ready for the upcoming season. These sessions are being held at the Gilford Youth Center. For more information on how to register, visit the GYC website for girls and boys.

New Volunteers

The next fingerprinting/volunteer/chaperone clinic will be at the SAU on November 13, Wednesday morning at 8:00. If you wish to sub, volunteer, chaperone in any of our schools, this must be done, please.

Take care.
