Good afternoon. I hope that the New Year has gotten off to a good start for you and your families. Overall, it has been a very good start to 2020 here at GMS!

8th Grade News

A reminder that the 8th Grade Parent Night is this Tuesday in the high school auditorium at 6:30pm. This is a great chance to meet your high school counselors and to go over very important high school transition information; like selecting classes for next year!

New Silver Hawks Announced

The past Monday morning we welcomed our newest 8 Silver Hawk Award winners at an assembly over in the auditorium. Each trimester the teacher select 2 students from each grade whom they feel best exemplify what it means to be a responsible, respectful, resourceful and confident learner. Seeing that we have many, many students who fit this bill, it is often difficult to narrow it down to just eight. I am proud to announce that following were chosen for this prestigious honor:

Grade 5 = Beckett Lehr & Lilly Sanborn

Grade 6 = Emma Horton & Rylan Paradis

Grade 7 = Rachel Beck & Harry Jenkins

Grade 8 = Tristan Reinhold & Rylee Stefan

Over the past few weeks, students in our social studies classes have been competing in the National Geographic Geography Bee. Winners from each grade level are:

Grade 5 = Ben Valles, Catherine Fay & Cayden Carroll

Grade 6 = Henry Sleeper, Addy Guyer & Elijah Moneysmith

Grade 7 = Ethan Ellingsen, Ben Wolpin & Aiden Suarez

Grade 8 = Isaiah Reese, Haukur Karlsson & Christopher Port

The twelve of them then competed yesterday in the library to determine the school winner:

3rd Place = Ben Wolpin

2nd Place = Henry Sleeper

1st Place = Haukur Karlsson

Haukur now moves on to state competition. Congrats to Haukur and all that competed!

We will still accept permission slips for our January 23rd Winter Carnival up at the mountain and over at the rink. If your child is not going to attend school at all that day, please still send in the form stating that so we do not have to make unnecessary calls home asking why they are absent from school.

Please find attached to this email, a letter from Mrs. Damato regarding Robotics/LEGO League. Also, the agenda for Tuesday morning’s District Policy Committee Meeting is attached.
