Good morning.

Yes, we have another Blizzard Bag Day. I just emailed our students reminding them that when they start complaining about the work they have to do on a Snow Day, remember that if it were not for Blizzard Bags our last day of school (for now) would be Wednesday, June 24. That is pretty late. Right now, our last day of school is Thursday, June 18. Keep positive!

Valentine's Day Events

Tomorrow afternoon and evening the building will be hopping! From 2:30-4:00 our Volunteer Steering Committee is sponsoring an after-school Valentine’s Day Social for our 5th and 6th Graders; and it’s free! And then tomorrow night from 7:00-8:30 our 7th Grade Team is hosting our 7th/8th Grade Valentine’s Day Dance; the cost is $5.00 for the dance.

Math News

Congratulations to our Math Team for finishing their last MathCounts Meet in a three-way tie for 2nd place last weekend up at Plymouth State University! I don’t have the names yet but three of our students finished in the Top 12. Kudos to Mr. Bowler and his hard working, dedicated mathletes!

Congratulations for both our Boys and Girls A Basketball Teams for each taking 2nd place at last week’s Winnisquam Basketball Tournament! Both teams (as well as both B teams) had great seasons!

Last week, representatives from Meredith Village Savings Bank came into meet with our 6th Grade Entrepreneurs for their annual Economy Unit Project. Students had to design, produce and pitch a business plan to the bankers to secure a loan to manufacture and sell their innovative creations! More to come on this valuable project!

Guidance Speakers

Mrs. Moynihan continues her quest in introducing various career paths for students in her guidance class. Most recent presenters were an engineer, hairdresser and an employee from the Portsmouth Naval ShipYard. Again, thanks to you folks for taking the time to come in and talk with our 5th graders.

I have attached the most recent Gilford Parks and Rec Newsletter to this email. Also attached is a flyer for a presentation next month being held in Gilmanton regarding Internet Safety.

Upcoming Events

Fair warning: Next week our Student Council is sponsoring our annual “Winter Spirit Week.” Each day has a certain special something for kids to have some fun: Crazy Hair Day (Monday), Twin Day (Tuesday), Dress Up as a Teacher Day (Wednesday), Decades Day (Thursday), and Sports Day (Friday). Always a good way to celebrate the week before vacation!

Next week’s events:

Monday = Nordic Ski Meet at Sandwich (10:30)

Saturday (2/22) = Nordic Ski Meet at White Mountains (10:30)

Take care,
