Good afternoon. Let’s hope that we get many more rain drops than snowflakes tomorrow….

The plan is that on Monday, our technology director is going to work with students to “select” their courses for next year (incoming 5th thru 8th grade). Our new student information systems require that students “select” their courses through the Alma platform. I say “select” as there are only two areas where students have a choice: One is whether or not they want to take Band and/or Chorus and, two, their choice of French or Spanish. I strongly recommend that they stick with their current language. Our goal here in the district is to have students leave here with strong communication skills in one language; sticking with one language will help make that happen. But, if you or your child chooses to switch languages, that is okay, too. They may find it challenging, at least in the beginning. So please talk it over with them before Monday about these two choices.

Next week, the schedule changes for remote instruction. Please read the end of this email to find the new schedules.

“Mask fatigue” is alive and well. We need your help in reminding students that they need to wear their masks properly here in school. If a teacher has to remind a student to pull up their mask multiple times during a class, I have asked them to send the student to the office where either I or Mr. Walsh will speak with them about why we need to maintain the wearing of masks. We not only need to follow the school board rules but also have a duty to ensure that everyone is safe here. With the rise of cases, we need to remain vigilant.

Save the date(s): Our GMS Spring Choral Concert will take place on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 with our GMS Monster Band Concert the very next night at 7:00. More details to follow as we get closer to the events.

There are two sporting events next week: Baseball here at home on Tuesday (4:00) and our first track meet (also at home) on Thursday (4:00).

The Student Council is sponsoring an “Around the World” Spirit Week next week. Students and staff are invited to dress in the colors of a country’s flag each day. Monday is Brazil (green, yellow, blue); Tuesday is Spain (red, yellow); Wednesday is France (blue, white, red); Thursday is Ireland (green, white, orange); and Friday is Sweden (blue, yellow). These will be accompanied by a “fun fact’ for each country.

COVID has really impacted our ability to run a full DARE program these past two years. The plan for an abridged version will have SRO Alyssa Raxter working with Mrs. McLane in her 5th grade Health Class and have a presentation in the auditorium for both 6th and 7th graders later in April. We will also have our remote learners join via GoogleMeet.

Thank you and have a nice evening.

Take care,
