Good morning.

Thank you again for putting up with me earlier today. Hopefully, it brought a smile or at least an eye-roll from the students. It was nice to know that so many were watching; more than 170 even took the time to answer the trivia question! I hope they took my advice to heart as to how best manage their academic workload and how to deal with any anxiety caused by this pandemic.

It is important that students stay on top of the work. If they are able to do so, it should be very manageable for them to do it independently. Trouble arises when they let assignments pile up or do not ask questions when they are struggling. When this happens, they can become easily overwhelmed which will cause anxiety for them (and you, too).

It is important to create a routine/schedule with the students. Seeing that we are now out until at least May 4 has caused us to rethink our schedule. Next week as I “meet” with each of the grade level teams, we will look at how we may want to tweak our schedule. The only change we have made so far is that teachers who want to “live” video classrooms will do them during their regularly scheduled class time as to avoid overlapping of video conferences. We will also discuss how/when to report out on students’ academic progress.

This morning I did share with the students tips on how to lessen the anxiety caused by the COVID 19 outbreak:

For kids:

Reassure them that they’re safe

Let them talk about their worries

Share your own coping skills

Limit their News exposure

Create a routine & structure

For you:

Avoid excessive exposure to media coverage

Connect through phone/text/internet

Add extra time for daily stress relief

Practice self-care

Focus on your mental health

For Quarantine/Isolation

Keep in contact with your loved ones via social media, texts and phone calls

Create a daily self-care routine

Keep yourself busy: games, books, movies

Focus on new relaxation techniques

If you are experiencing computer issues please email Mrs. Damato, and she can assist you or at the very least point you in the right direction.

This whole experience has been hard on EVERYBODY. It’s not always easy, but we have to try to remain calm, be positive, and understand that each of us is struggling in different ways since this all began. We’ll get through this together.

Take care.
