Good evening.

Pumpkin Carving

Your kids (and my faculty, staff & volunteer parents) made me look good today. Despite my last minute fumbling with some of the details, the pumpkin carving was awesome today. The students did a great job during the entire process. We carved nearly 330 pumpkins today for the city of Laconia’s annual PumpkinFest. And kudos to Mr. Walsh who, despite detesting the smell of pumpkins, was stuck in the garage the entire time unloading and loading pumpkins.

Choose Love Movement

We are hosting an event at the high school on November 5 from 6:00-7:30. Scarlett Lewis will be here to speak to the community about the “Choose Love” movement and creating a safer, peaceful and loving world. It was the bravery of her 6-year old son, Jesse, that has motivated her to start this movement. Jesse was murdered in his first grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School. We hope that you can attend.

Any student interested in joining our Student Council or learning more about the club, please complete the short survey that was sent to them last week. The council’s first meeting is in the morning of Wednesday, October 23rd. Email Mr. Parker for more information.

Red Ribbon Week...

Is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign; it begins next week. Mrs. Moynihan will be passing out red ribbons to honor the event in hopes of students to pledge to live a drug-free life. Each day we will share with the students information about the consequences of abusing drugs and the gains of living drug-free.

Our first dance of the year (for 7th and 8th graders only) will be next Friday from 7:00-8:30 in our cafeteria. The theme, of course, is Halloween! Students (and staff) are more than welcome to wear their school-appropriate Halloween costumes.

Important Attachments

There are a few attachments to this email. The first is the most recent edition of the Gilford Parks and Recreation newsletter.

If you or anyone you know is in need of a Thanksgiving Basket, please see the attachment on how to order a Thanksgiving basket from the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Laconia.

As you’ll see in their flyer, the Gilford Parks and Rec is once again sponsoring a Halloween Party for the children of Gilford. It’ll next Friday before our dance (it begins at 5:30). But they need help running the games during the party before they head over to our dance. If your child is interested, please let me know and I will let the folks at the Parks & Rec aware.

Again, attached to this email is a flyer on the PTA's Hike-A-Thon and how you can help support the PTA!

I hope you have a good rest of the evening. Take care.
